South Korea was awarded the right to host the XXIV Olympiad Summer Olympics, an international multi-sport event celebrated from 17 September to 2 October 1988 in Seoul. When I arrived in Korea during May 1985, massive construction to host the event was well underway. The country had committed a vast amount of resources to ensure that their arrival on the world stage would be unblemished and their Olympics mascot, Hodori, provided assurance. The ‘coming out party’ was highly success and well received internationally. See Wikipedia.
